Road Trip: The Appalachians

One of the things we were particularly looking forward to seeing on our road trip were the Appalachian Mountains. We took the Blue Ridge Parkway to get us from Asheville to Charlotte instead of the highway. It made our trip significantly longer, especially since we ran into a couple of road closures due to bad weather, but also so much more scenic.

{Here they come!}

I've never been happier to be in a passenger seat as I was while driving through these winding roads. The whole route felt like one continuous turn. For someone who can get slightly dizzy on an exit ramp, a two hour turn would have ended badly to say the least. I'm so glad Mr. C did all the navigating so I could relax and enjoy the views.

{A magnificent picture at one of many overlook spots along the way.}

{And that's why they call them the Blue Ridge Mountains}

{Jump for joy!}

We had so much fun driving along the Blue Ridge Parkway that on our way back home we decided to go through the Great Smoky Mountains. To our dismay it was raining, and the mountains were covered in thick fog. I guess that's why they call them Smoky. It felt a bit like driving in the clouds. All we could see was the narrow road in front of us and absolutely nothing else past it. It did make for some spooky photos though.

{Where did the mountains go?}

{The only way out is through.}

Stay tuned for our next stop, Charlotte, NC!

  2. We always opt for the scenic routes as well, even if it adds time to our trip! So worth it. These photos are amazing—that fog is insane! Looks like a great experience :)
