Daydream Worthy: Sweatshirts

I've never been a fan of sweatshirts, whether it would be wearing them outside or in the privacy of my home. I always considered them to be one of the least flattering or stylish pieces in my closet. Sure they're comfortable, but I always found it nearly impossible not to look frumpy in them. This season stores are offering many options of revamped sweatshirts, and with all these cool designs and luxurious fabrics I'm really reconsidering my relationship with this garment. When paired with leather pants or a fluted skirt it could be just about the coolest thing to wear. Who would have thought?

I've been searching for a denim vest for quite some time. While I like the look of the classic version such as this, I wanted to invest in something slightly more modern. The moment I saw this Rebecca Taylor number online, I knew it was the winner. It's moto style makes the piece feel more updated and edgy (great for toning down those ultra feminine pieces). I also like that this version is a bit oversized. It's perfect for layering not only over summer tops and dresses but over thick sweaters or even another jacket.

Most days I can put an outfit together fairly quickly, but once in a while the process takes much longer than it should. You know those days when you pull out piece after piece and nothing seems to go together - nothing is occasion or weather appropriate, or it's just plain wrinkled (and some days you just really don't feel like pulling that darn steamer out). It's on days like this when I usually end up doing a simple trick - I choose a skirt and a top  in the same or very similar shade. Add a belt to tie the two together and you end up with what looks like a new dress.

I happened to find this skirt at Goodwill, and what a great find it was! It's made out of jersey (Yay! No ironing!) and has a slight sheen and texture, which gives a piece a bit more of a luxurious feel. It's so comfy and versatile, and can be easily transitioned into fall. It's also a great option for traveling.

Birthday Delights

Last week I turned another year older. To celebrate Mr. C and I went out for some tapas at Azucar - a restaurant we've never been to in our old neighborhood. Afterwords we decided to catch a film at a local theater. It was a perfect night with just a two of us. I think we need to bring these date nights back into our lives. I didn't realize how much I was missing them.

 This Milly skirt is probably the prettiest piece in my closet. Despite that, I always hesitated wearing it, waiting for that special occasion. Even as I wore it for our birthday date I kept envisioning some tomato sauce covered meatball landing on my lap, ruining my skirt forever. Or me accidentally plopping on some soda covered movie theater seat. Or it's hem getting stuck in the car door. I mean, it's a possibility, right? Does wearing the most precious item in your closet ever make you feel paranoid about ruining it?
